Get Online Register Your RNI Certificate in India.

The RNI (Registrar of Newspapers for India) was introduced in 1956 modifying the PRB (Press and registration of book) act. This legal body guarantees the maintenance of the newspaper register, the issuance of an RNI registration certificate, the interpretation of the annual accounts shared by newspaper publishers, the guarantee of publication of newspapers in accordance with the PRB law, the validation of declarations broadcasting and other functions not required by law.


This article provides detailed information on the procedure for acquiring an RNI record in India for publication.


RNI registration

The PRB Act of 1867 and the (Central) Newspaper Registration Rules of 1956 govern the publication and printing of newspapers and magazines in India. As a general rule, no newspaper or magazine may use a title that has already been used by another newspaper, whether or not it has been published in another language. This is only possible if the two published newspapers or magazines belong to the same person. The Press Registry or RNI has been designated by the government to keep records of all newspapers and magazines published in India. RNI registration cannot be provided to agencies such as news agencies, training materials, or electronic publications.


Procedure - Registration of RNI

The registration steps are as follows:

Check availability of titles -

The applicant must submit an application with the correct format and the required information to the competent authority to verify the availability of the title. A title review letter will be sent to the applicant after the Registrar of Record approves the title.


Title Registration –

The owner of the publication must present the title registration within two years after receiving the confirmation letter.


The registration of the title must coincide with the examination of the issued title.


Registration of RNI for the first publication - a procedure

The publication owner must submit the authentication of the declaration in the correct format to the managing authority. The owner can continue the RNI registration process for the first publication. In accordance with section 5 (5) of the PRB law of 1867, the first edition of the publication for the weekly or daily periodicity must be completed within 42 days after the declaration is authenticated and 90 days for the periodicity of 14 days. or more, if applicable. cases will not be reviewed, a statement must be submitted.


RNI registration compliance - First version

The publication must be printed in the press mentioned in the statement.

The title should be displayed horizontally or vertically, using the uniform font or font size, with a difference of more than 25% in the heading to ensure its uniqueness.

Bilingual or multilingual publications can display titles in any language on print.

The frequency of publication does not differ from the marked title and therefore should not be included in the print.

The title must be displayed in English / Hindi, even if the title language is in a different language.

The print must include the required information, such as date/month/year, volume and publication number, price, frequency and place of publication, the language of publication.

The title, the date/month/year of publication, and the number of pages must be indicated on each page.

The name of the publisher mentioned in the statement must match the name of the print line. "Printed by, published by, printed by, published by and on behalf of" must be mentioned in the line of printing.

The printed line must be legible in accordance with section 3 of the PRB law and have a visible writing line.
